The incredibly low kerbweight of the 4C is down to extensive use of carbon fibre. The F1 inspired one-piece monocoque is constructed purely out of carbon and weighs just 65kg. The bodywork is assembled using SMC (Sheet Moulding Compound), which is lighter than aluminium and the Alfa engineers even trimmed the width of the 4C’s windows by 15 per cent to reduce overall weight.
