Among the memorabilia in the exhibition is an enchanting portrait of Geraldine, who Dan describes as more of a naturalist than a gardener. She taught him about ecology and they ran a plant stall together. Until he was 17 Dan looked after her greenhouses when she went off on plant-collecting trips and they kept in touch until she died in 2008.
