In his second start back from the disabled list, Jon Niese (5-6) gave the Mets a strong six innings. He struck out nine, a season high and one of his career records, and held the Padres to one run -- a home run by Will Venable. Niese allowed six hits and a walk. He picked up back-to-back wins for the first time this season.
