Naturally one British composer looms large: Benjamin Britten, whose centenary falls this year. Is this another one of those “givens” Wright mentioned? “Well, of course we pay attention to anniversaries, but in our own way. With Britten we’re showing the context he worked in, which will allow everyone to see more clearly was extraordinary about him.
