Search hard enough on the internet and you can still find his face, tanned and grinning, in old ads for preppy brands such as J Crew and Ralph Lauren. The experience served, he says now, as “a crash course in the way one’s image can be commodified, used up, spat out”, a process which he resolved to avoid repeating as an artist.
