After drilling actives and dust samples analyzed, its nature was confirmed. Calcium sulphate -- a.k.a. gypsum -- was found. The presence of the mineral, also discovered on the other side of the planet by NASA's veteran Mars rover Opportunity, is further evidence that Mars used to have large quantities of water on its surface.
