Please call back later alissa p The tone was set by a spectacular opening ceremony created by the film director Danny Boyle, which prompted one Conservative minister to remark that his party needed to pass “the Danny Boyle test” of a modern Britain and avoid being “nostalgists promoting a better yesterday”. The irony is that the particular institution whose virtues Boyle chose to extol – the NHS – has failed that test. The image of the health service presented in the opening ceremony was already years out of date; and the scandals of the past 12 months are ample evidence of the need for even the most venerated of organisations to change and reform.
